Counter-Strike 2 steals fan favourite VALORANT feature

Counter-Strike 2 has reinvented the wheel when it comes to the buy phase, but VALORANT players have claimed it looks all-to-familiar.

My oh my, how the tables have turned. After years of VALORANT being lambasted by the FPS community for "stealing" the core aspect of Counter-Strike and adding a bunch of bells, whistles, and annoyingly deep smokes, the script has been completely flipped.

Instead, with the soaring success of VALORANT after finding a place alongside Counter-Strike in the market rather than eclipsing it or being dwarfed by it, Valve has now started poaching some of Riot's features as they build Counter-Strike 2.

Counter-Strike 2 reinvents the wheel with new loadout menu

With CS2 already having explored many new features, including the dynamic smoke grenades that will add a wealth of more experimental geometry, Valve has now lifted the lid on some more changes.

This time, it has announced a huge overhaul of the loadout system and in-game buy system. This will add much more emphasis on the pre-determination of rounds and calculating how to combat the economy effectively.

But one of the most startling changes is that made to the buy system, as Valve has mimicked that seen in VALORANT. The UI is almost identical, and a "sell" option has been added to prevent the classic fat-finger mistakes.

Counter-Strike 'steals' VALORANT Buy System

The CS2 buy system will now let you sell back items that you have incorrectly purchased as you pull together your round-ly loadout, which was a major gripe in previous games if you changed your mind based on team communication.

As many fans pointed out, this is exactly how VALORANT works and looks. "Looks like Valorant lol", "Valorant clone," and "Thank you Riot for showing Valve the light," were just some jokes made by CS2 fans.

There's no denying that the system suits CS2 much better, and there appears to be overwhelming support for the buy-back feature - despite having to weave goodbye to the wheel.
