The latest update for Cyberpunk 2077 is so earth-shatteringly big, you might think it could tide players over forever. With so many bug fixes, quality-of-life changes and new features added to the game - before even considering the gigantic Phantom Liberty DLC - players clearly have a lot to work through.

While we chip away at the brand-new Cyberpunk, players are wondering what the future holds for the game. It looks like we officially have our answer from CD Projekt Red itself, but it might not please everyone.

Cyberpunk 2077 Game Director is ready for the future

Speaking in a conversation with PCGamer, Cyberpunk 2077 Game Director Gabe Amatangelo has made it clear that the team is ready to move onto pastures news. Now that we have our newly updated Cyberpunk and the game has largely turned around its reputation, it could be time to move on.

When asked about the future of Cyberpunk and what comes next, Amatangelo said succinctly, "Then it's Cyberpunk 2. Or 'Orion,' I should say, whatever we end up naming it," practically confirming that when it comes to new content, we shouldn't expect anything from the game that we have right now.

There's still a lot to work through for players, but that doesn't mean it won't be a shame to hear we won't be getting another Cyberpunk 2077 DLC. Fans may take the Skyrim route and keep the game going through mods, but in terms of new stuff from devs, it looks like Cyberpunk 2077 is finished.

CDPR is known for its impressive expansions, but unlike The Witcher 3 getting Blood & Wine and Hearts of Stone, Phantom Liberty looks like it's bringing our current adventure in Night City to an end.

Cyberpunk 2.0 has the game's highest player count

After the disaster of the game's original launch, it's clear that the redemption arc of 2.0 and Phantom Liberty has been a popular one. According to SteamDB's numbers, Cyberpunk 2077 has hit an all-new peak for the title at 246,754 at once on Steam.

It's a pretty massive feat for a game that flopped as hard as Cyberpunk 2077 did on its first attempt in 2020, - but it looks like the game is back stronger than ever. We'll have to wait and see whether the mysterious Orion will launch in a similar way to the OG, or things will run a little smoother.
