There's "No Love" between Cardi B and Call of Duty, and although the American rapper/songwriter might be trying to "Shake It," Activision refuses to say "I Like It." We'd make a "WAP" joke, but it wouldn't be suitable. Now, Cardi B has confirmed she's lost out on a multi-million dollar Call of Duty deal.
We've come a long way from Jeff Goldblum appearing in Black Ops 3 Zombies or Jason Statham in the OG Call of Duty, and more recently, we've seen the CoDverse lean into its celebrity endorsements and crossovers. If it wasn't King Kong and Godzilla, it was Snoop Dogg in Warzone. It turns out Cardi B could've joined the her fellow rapper on the battlefield.
What Happened To Cardi B In Call Of Duty?
Posting on Twitter, Cardi B (real name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar) said she had to pull out of the multi-million dollar" Call of Duty deal because of "stupid decisions from the past." Although she didn't elaborate much, Cardi B cited a recent court case, telling her fans to "think twice" about making rash decisions.
In early September, Almánzar pled guilty to assault charges from a 2018 altercation in a New York strip club. She managed to avoid prison by brokering a plea deal - serving 15 days of community service and agreeing to to pay the court fees of the women involved in the case.
She doesn't clarify how the court has put a stop to her CoD deal, but it's likely not a good look to give someone a tonne of cash after being involved in a high-profile court case and narrowly avoiding prison. When one fan asked whether this explains why she wore a Modern Warfare 2 necklace in a recent music video, the star confirmed it.
Could Cardi B Return To Call Of Duty?
Away from the CoDverse, Fortnite has continued to coin in with musical collabs including Ariana Grande and Lil Nas X. Then again, we all remember that Travis Scott debacle. It remains to be seen whether Cardi and CoD could be back on the table, but the replies to her tweet were filled with fans saying they'd shell out for a long-nailed Cardi skin in Warzone 2.
Even though Cardi B doesn't reveal whether her deal was as part of Modern Warfare 2 or Warzone/Warzone 2, the former's lengthy production process and latter's continuous updates with operator bundles means we'd guess it's the second one. We could be miles off with this one, and let's remember the likes of Michael B. Jordan, Megan Fox and Robert Downey Jr. were presumably paid a small fortune to appear in live-action CoD adverts.
