Call of Duty fans agree there’s ‘too much’ Modern Warfare

After many years, Call of Duty fans are coming together to argue that it's about time the Modern Warfare series packed up its bags.

After being bombarded with annual releases, Call of Duty fans are starting to get frustrated with repetition. We're wondering where they've been for the last decade or so.

In all seriousness, there is plenty to help differentiate each passing Call of Duty title (with the exception of perhaps the last couple of years), but fans still demand just enough change that gives a new game an extra touch without losing the franchise's core gameplay.

It's a tough balance to strike between moving with the times and delivering nostalgia, and debate remains rife as to whether the teams can keep it up any longer. Now, it looks like players are putting their feet down with one sub-franchise.

Call of Duty fans have had enough of Modern Warfare

Players are starting to realise that maybe Modern Warfare itself is a problem in the Call of Duty world, as even though many have loved the series' output, they're starting to feel as though something needs to change.

Sharing their feelings about the ongoing Modern Warfare series, Reddit user adriandoesstuff has reminded players that there are officially eight titles in the Modern Warfare series. This doesn't include ports across Nintendo consoles, with a huge wealth of them being released in the last five years.

Others in the comments clearly agree with the OP, sharing that "the original trilogy was basically perfect, yet they thought making some mediocre remakes was a good idea."

"It drives me crazy when they name another game nearly the same thing like MW2 and MW2 (2022)," says another, adding, "It has caused so much confusion when in conversations with people that also played the OG MW2."

As one player states, "The fact that there is 3 different Modern Warfare make my brain hurt," it's obvious that confusion and frustration are leading to a turn against the franchise. The same goes for Black Ops, which is another series that fans have suggested they're willing to say farewell to.

Even though there's no denying Modern Warfare has delivered some iconic entries, it could be time to leave it in the past. We can't expect Call of Duty to improve if it can't actually grow and change, so maybe it's time the series is laid to rest. Goodness knows we won't be able to compute another reboot.
