Call of Duty’s $30 BlackCell Michael Myers skin has to be a joke

Michael Myers is getting a new wardrobe in Call of Duty, but as ever, you'll have to pay through the nose for it.

Call Of Duty Michael Myers Blackcell Skin

It's that time of year again when there are two things going on in the Call of Duty sphere. Since 2020, we've enjoyed the annual Halloween horrors of The Haunting event, but it's also around this time that last year's game heads to the grave and a copycat killer takes up the mantle.

Things are no different in 2024, and with the incumbent Modern Warfare 3 preparing to bow out, Black Ops 6 is waiting in the wings with a butcher's knife in its hand. There's one more swish of the blade, as MW3 and Warzone Season 6 promise that there will be one final bloodbath.

Call of Duty players can't believe the BlackCell Michael Myers skin

After appearing in Call of Duty: Ghosts, Michael Myers is ready to make his mark on MW3. "The Shape" is lumbering into view for Season 6, and while he's sure to be a popular poster boy of all these gruesome goings on, his inclusion in the game's BlackCell battle pass is causing a stir.

Since its introduction back in MW2 Season 3, the BlackCell battle pass has proved to be a divisive way of monetising CoD. Costing $30 (or your regional equivalent), BlackCell is hyped as 'going beyond' your typical battle pass. Supposedly boasting more than 7,000 Call of Duty Points' worth of items, there are also exclusive variants.

BlackCell continues to be controversial due to an exclusive Michael Myers variant in Season 6. While the battle pass has previously taken flak for its over-reliance on black and gold variants, players find themselves begging for a 'blinged' Michael Myers when compared to his pedestrian BlackCell version.

The base version of the game's battle pass unlocks a black jumpsuit version of Michael at Tier 0, while stumping up for BlackCell adds a blue jumpsuit to his wardrobe. Although BlackCell includes a number of other skins, like the gnarly BlackCell Alone Operator skin that's a three-headed Ghost Operator, most agree the Michael Operator just isn't cutting it.

Laughing at the idea that we'll be paying $30 for BlackCell just for Michael to have a blue jumpsuit, one sceptic chuckled, "$30 for a blue jumpsuit instead of black 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡😂😂😂😂." Another added, "No bro I'm colorblind they are the same, I was hoping we got a blinged out Michael or at least a damaged variant," and a third joked, "Such a riveting purchase to make."

One disgruntled gamer suggested that Michael should've been reimagined in the classic BlackCell style, while another questioned why we didn't get the battered and aged Myers from Halloween Kills. Things only get worse when you realise Michael's lifespan won't be that long.

We've already covered how players are refusing to buy more skins in MW3. The popular Carry Forward system is being scrapped, meaning that any of MW3's weird and wonderful skins will be locked out of Black Ops 6. Even though you can still use them in Warzone, many are boycotting upcoming releases until BO6 reveals what it's bringing to the table.

Considering MW2's Season 6 BlackCell was dubbed an "instant buy" by many, it's sad to see how we've fallen. This year's The Haunting has already been branded as 'greedy', but thinking you can flog a minor wardrobe change and charge through the nose for it is sure to have the villagers reaching for their pitchforks.
