Black Ops 6 players argue that size does matter when it comes to multiplayer maps

We're on the cusp of a new dawn for the Call of Duty franchise, and with Treyarch working on Black Ops 6 for the past four years, we're expecting a return to form following the disappointment of Modern Warfare 3. Unfortunately, the Black Ops 6 beta hasn't quite been firing on all cylinders.
Xbox players were gifted access to Black Ops 6 early during the first beta weekend, but with PlayStation owners quickly catching up for the second one, everyone who pre-ordered has been able to dip their toe into this Gulf War shooter. It's a chance for Treyarch to get feedback on what's working and what isn't, but apparently, there could be a sizing problem.
Size DOES matter with Black Ops 6's multiplayer maps
Eight brand-new multiplayer maps have been putting us through our paces in the beta, with the lineup expanding to 16 when the full game launches on October 25. MW3 really pushed the high-octane action of small maps, and with Babylon looking like Black Ops 6's answer to Shipment, it's more of the same in 2024.
Still, the devs have been called out for a lack of map variety, with it looking like some have shrunk in the wash. Treyarch claims this isn't the case, saying that the majority of the game's 6v6 maps are 'medium' akin to classics like Raid and Summit.
The mention of Raid and Summit has us hoping that these classics will be back, but before we get there, it's clear some of you think the devs have got their measurements wrong. One unconvinced player wrote, "How the f**k is Skyline medium but Scud and Derelict are small.. am I missing something?"
Another added, "They should’ve had more medium maps for the beta, wtf. I’d love to play more of those spaces. I hated the Shipment reskins bro," and a third said, "Can't wait for every game to feel like I'm on crack ffs." Someone concluded that Black Ops 6 has Small Map Syndrome.
When you crunch the numbers, eight of the 16 launch maps are classed as medium, four are small, and there are four minuscule Strike maps that are built for 2v2 but can host 6v6. The decision to exclude any large maps is one that's proving divisive, but there's a chance that could change over the game's lifespan.
There's the idea that Treyarch is putting all its eggs in one tiny basket, and when you couple these smaller maps with the chaos of omnimovement, it's clear Black Ops 6 is going for a sweaty shooter experience. Then again, if you want a slower pace of play, you should probably go and play Space Marine 2.
