Baldur’s Gate 3 has an NPC no one can find

One Baldur's Gate 3 NPC is proving incredibly elusive, and even after hundreds of hours of playing, many have only just heard about Honk the Orc.

After sweeping the awards board in 2023, it's fair to say that Baldur's Gate 3 is something of a behemoth in the gaming world. Though we're used to scale through the lens of a giant explorable world à la Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur's Gate 3 pushes boundaries that many studios had thought not to push.

Baldur's Gate 3 gives players the freedom to do truly anything and allows them to live with their choices, pushing them to their absolute limits along their adventures. We trust that the many sequences featuring a sexual encounter with a bear demand a lot of storage, too, but that's beside the point.

The fantasy RPG is huge, and there's still plenty left to discover. This includes one non-player character that is, apparently, still hidden somewhere along the way.

Nobody can find Honk in Baldur\s Gate 3

In a new video (via PC Gamer), YouTuber Proxy Gate Tactician reveals that despite constant attempts, many players are struggling to find one NPC who will only appear in incredibly specific circumstances.

It has been pointed out that among the many encounters that are hidden in the game that are the most difficult to find, one Half-Orc called Honk appears to be the most elusive. According to PC Gamer's Ted Litchfield, he's been playing for 300 hours and still not met Honk.

If you want to meet Honk (even though he won't be particularly happy to see you), you'll have to have a run-in with his twin brother in the Singing Lute. Even then, the whole interaction with Tender Henk to lead to Honk is difficult to pull off.

During the romancing of Karlach, Henk ends up flattening the mood with his poor approach to service. It's a memorable scene, but it can be even more so - if Henk ends up dying somehow (wink, wink) before he comes to serve you, he'll be replaced by his brother, Honk. Honl looks exactly the same as Henk, if not for a different trim.

Honk isn't just a bog-standard stand-in

Honk as he appears in Baldur's Gate 3.

Though it might seem like a simple case of replacement, it appears that Honk's existence runs even deeper. A note left in the Singing Lute that already alludes to his existence, while there's also Karlach's willingness to refer to the orc as Honk rather than Henk.

We knew the game's attention to detail was up there, but blimey, this is pretty incredible. Baldur's Gate 3 players are pretty shocked by the Honk's appearance, and even more stunned by just how much detail has been offered to a character that most players simply won't meet. Long live Henk, all hail Honk.
