It's pretty hard to keep track of what's going on with Assassin's Creed right now, as Ubisoft's once tiny stealth series has grown into a massive oak tree. Now, we might've got our first look at Assassin's Creed Jade.
Alongside the Baghdad-set Mirage that will continue Basim's story and the witch trial Hexe, there are two games based in Asia, with the mysterious Red in Fuedal Japan and Jade in China. That's before we get to the live-service Infinity - although we have no idea what that involves for Assassin's Creed.
What Does The Assassin's Creed Jade Gameplay Show?
We'd like to point out "Codename Jade" is just the working title of this mobile game set in China. The AAA RPG is supposed to be in the works as a partnership between Tencent and Ubisoft - although this hasn't been confirmed yet.
The first leak appeared on an Assassin's Creed Facebook page and then washed up on Reddit. Running at nearly three minutes, the footage was seeingly captured on an iPhone and showed off a combat tutorial. The MVP is someone called Dengling Bai, but we don't know if this will still be the case when it releases fully.
After the first round of footage appeared, more videos cropped up on YouTube before being taken down. Commenters have noted a similar gameplay style to Assassin's Creed Odyssey, boasting damage numbers and ultimate power moves. You can parkour around the city's rooftops and (obviously) hide in haystacks.
Those who know about China will be able to spot Yangzhou City and China's Great Wall. The music also appears to be a revamped version of "Ezio's Family." What makes Jade special is that you can completely customise your character for the first time.
When Could Assassin's Creed Jade Release?
It's not clear where these leaks have come from, but it appears that Assassin's Creed Jade is in its beta testing phase and those lucky few are ignoring NDAs.
If Jade (or whatever it's called) is already out there in the wild, we're hoping it's near its release date. Going against this, the fact the cutscene between Bai and Wei Yu is unvoiced suggests there's still a fair bit to be done.
Jade was revealed in an all-star Ubisoft showcase in December, and while a lot of the attention went to Red because it fulfils years of players asking for a Japan-set game, the first look at Jade has us pumped. Until we get an official release date, we'll keep our eyes on the internet for more Assassin's Creed Jade leaks.
