Rumours of remakes for the classic Assassin's Creed games have been rife for years now, but we're yet to see any of them truly rear their heads.

Even when looking so far as its direct sequel, there's a great argument to be made about 2007's Assassin's Creed having dated gameplay. The same goes for some of the titles that have gone down as cult classics without getting enough love on the world stage.

It's no secret that 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is held as a franchise high, and with the internet going into a frenzy any time someone mentions Edward Kenway, a long-awaited remake could finally be setting sail.

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag remake may be in the works

A new tweet has pointed out how the LinkedIn pages of some Ubisoft team members have changed to indicate that they're working on a new Assassin's Creed project. More than this, the project they've moved over from seems to indicate what this new venture could be.

The tweet points out that two developers have apparently been assisting on a new "Unannounced Assassin's Creed Project" since September 2023. Although we have no confirmation about what type of project it is, fans think the fact that these developers have moved over from Skull & Bones does all the talking.

It's thought that the pair are helping to develop a remake of Black Flag, using their insight from the nautical adventure of Skull & Bones to manage the real pirate-y stuff. Namely, ship traversal.

Fans are desperate for a Black Flag remake

After Ubisoft let players down by teasing them with a sequel for Black Flag before revealing that it would be a webtoon, players have been desperate for Black Flag to be the first in a line of hopeful Assassin's Creed remakes.

The swashbuckling adventure has long stood as a favourite for fans, so to see it return could be a huge win for Ubisoft and the series basket that it seems to put all of its eggs in.

Ubisoft's hopes are high for the Assassin's Creed franchise, and unfortunately for the team, so are ours. The return of Black Flag could mark a new era, but hopefully, this won't be another cash grab that's forced to walk the plank.
