We seem to be happy enough with our current consumption of the digital world, with a phone in our pockets, a TV in our homes, and computers that make working possible just about anywhere.

But, ask any hardware developer, and they'll tell you it isn't enough. There is more potential out there for users, and even more opportunities for them to be absorbed in digital worlds that refuse to leave them alone.

And now, perhaps the boldest leap into digital existence in recent years is coming incredibly quickly - and launching much sooner than we'd expected.

Apple's Vision Pro is coming next month

Apple has announced that the Vision Pro is coming to store shelves in the US on February 2. The news has come to light thanks to a new press release from Apple, that reveals some fresh details about the device.

According to Apple, the headset is "a revolutionary spatial computer that transforms how people work, collaborate, connect, relive memories, and enjoy entertainment. Vision Pro seamlessly blends digital content with the physical world and unlocks powerful spatial experiences in visionOS, controlled by the most natural and intuitive inputs possible — a user’s eyes, hands, and voice."

"The era of spatial computing has arrived," adds Tim Cook, Apple CEO. “Apple Vision Pro is the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created. Its revolutionary and magical user interface will redefine how we connect, create, and explore.

How much does the Apple Vision Pro cost?

As shared by Apple boss Tim Cook, the headset comes in at a whopping $3,499. Thankfully, it comes with a few games on launch, too, with users being able to access the likes of NBA 2K24 Arcade Edition, What The Golf? and Sonic Dream Team via the Apple Arcade.

The device is toted as a mixed reality device, and its applications remain to be seen beyond its initial appearance at an Apple conference - and finally, we'll get to learn what its deal is. The strange digital worlds are about to converge on our location, and frankly, we don't know how to respond. Here comes a bold, new horizon.

With it being Apple's first foray into its nascent 'spatial computing' paradigm, we can likely expect subsequent versions to drop that eye-watering price. As the 'Pro' in the name suggests, this is aimed at those looking to be on the bleeding edge. Here's hoping for a consumer-level device that costs less than a couple of months' wages in the near future.
