Apex Legends pro ImperialHal slams random draft system as 'worst change ever made'

It seems that Phillip "ImperialHal" Dosen is unimpressed with Apex Legends and has slammed the random draft system as the "worst change ever made" in pro play.

Back in March, it was leaked that Respawn had plans to remove the Dropship from competitive Apex Legends and implement a draft system for different POIs.

This meant teams would be forced to practice more locations, and at LAN or Playoffs, POI selection would be weighted by performance. The reception to this potential change was mixed at best, with former TSM IGL and now DarkZero member Phillip "ImperialHal" Dosen describing it as "braindead."

Well, Hal has been "forced" to test out this new format in a set of pro lobbies and his opinion hasn't changed, slamming it as the "worst change ever made."

ImperialHal hates potential POI draft system changes

As expected, ImperialHal has been vocal about his experience with the new POI selection system, which, in his eyes, is a complete disaster.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on May 16, the CEO claimed that the "ALGS has just forced us to play on a random draft POI system in a competitive lobby." After trying the changes, Hal concluded that they were the "worst change ever made in Apex history" and may have a hugely negative impact on the scene as a whole.

He's even encouraged the community to "#SaveApexComp" by protesting against the new system before it's too late. A concerning factor that Hal also raised in his post is that "not a single Comp Player was in favour of this and they still pushed it in," suggesting that the ALGS hasn't taken feedback from teams.

For now, it's still possible for the league to reverse its decision on this POI system, but given how much it's being pushed behind the scenes, it seems unlikely.

The pro's biggest problem with the draft is that in some lobbies, you're just forced to drop at poor POIs. This means worse loot and less chance of winning the game.

Only time will tell whether this system gets rolled out fully into the ALGS as a whole, but there's no denying there's a lot of opposition against it.
