Ubisoft has made Anno 117: Pax Romana free to play until Monday, November 9 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, so if you've ever fancied running your own corner of the Roman Empire, this weekend won't cost you a single denarius.
The free weekend lines up with the release of Dawn of the Delta, the third and biggest expansion in the city builder's Year 1 Pass, which Ubisoft launched on November 5 and which takes your empire all the way to Egypt.
How to play Anno 117 for free this weekend
According to Ubisoft's announcement, the free weekend runs through November 9 on PlayStation, Xbox and Ubisoft Connect, and the Epic Games Store page also lists the game as free to play from November 5 to 9. Steam isn't mentioned as part of the free access, so PC players will want to grab it through Ubisoft Connect or Epic instead.
Ubisoft says any progress you make carries over if you decide to buy the game afterwards, which is handy given that a single Anno city can easily swallow a whole weekend (and the odd Monday morning). There's no exact end time, so we wouldn't leave your last session until late on Monday night.
If you do get hooked, the base game, the Year 1 Pass and the first two expansions, Prophecies of Ash and The Hippodrome, are up to 40% off. On Steam that takes the standard edition from £49.99 to £29.99 until November 18, while Ubisoft says the sale ends on November 19 on Xbox, November 20 on PlayStation and December 1 on the Ubisoft Store.
Walk like an Egyptian with Dawn of the Delta
Dawn of the Delta adds the province of Aegyptus, a river delta with new Floodplains terrain, two river ship types and new units in the shape of Kumatic Archers and Dromedarii, so camels are officially part of your war plans now.
There are also three new deities to keep happy in Sobek, Isis-Bastet and Thoth Trismegistus, new population tiers and production chains, a murder mystery campaign, and a project that lets you rebuild the pyramids, which is a slightly bigger job than the usual extension on the back of a villa. It's £20.99 on Steam if you'd rather pick it up on its own.
Anno 117 originally launched in November 2025, and it's had a mixed reception from players on Steam, where 65% of English-language reviews are positive, so a free weekend is a pretty sensible way to find out whether it's your sort of empire before you spend anything. If you're after something that's free to keep instead, Flotsam is free on the Epic Games Store until November 12.
Well, Rome wasn't built in a day, but you've got until Monday to give it a go.
