Alien: Isolation 2 Isn't Happening

Creative Assembly is best-known for 2014's Alien: Isolation, and while the developer has teased what's next, it doesn't sound like it's going to be Alien: Isolation 2.

It's game over man, game over. Our hopes of seeing Alien: Isolation 2 are seemingly dashed, as developer Creative Assembly confirms it's moved on from the horrors of the Sevastopol Station. Yeah, we're spitting acid in anger too.

Releasing in 2014, Alien: Isolation was a spine-tingling survival horror that some still say is one of the scariest games ever made. Taking the role of Amanda Ripley (yes, Ellen's daughter), you had to fight off rogue androids and a murderous Xenomorph using a dwindling arsenal of sporadic weapons. Stealth was the aim of the game here, and we all died A LOT while hiding in air vents or storage cupboards.

Is There An Alien: Isolation 2?

Alien Isolation Sequel

Much like Ridley Scott's 1979 movie, Alien: Isolation left enough meat for a sequel. The story ended after Ripley was trapped by a second Xeno, blasted herself through an airlock, and was awoken by a searchlight. Similar to how James Cameron's Aliens was a bigger and bloodier affair, it's easy to write our own story for a more action-orientated Alien: Isolation 2.

Speaking to Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar), Creative Assembly studio director Gareth Edmondson and creative director Alistair Hope announced the brand-new sci-fi IP. According to Hope, the mysterious title will have a "drive for attention to detail and authenticity." There's also an interesting mention of understanding the "source material," which suggests it could be coming from another fan-favourite franchise.

Chief Product Officer Rob Bartholomew said: "It's our new IP, and it’s a world that we're creating, and of course we're wringing our hands over it and we really want to get that right. We want to understand what authenticity in a blue ocean or an open sky looks like, when you've got a blank page in front of you." With this focus on a new game, it dashes our hopes of Isolation 2

Is Creative Assembly Working On A Predator Game?

Alien Isolation Gameplay

Even if we aren't getting Isolation 2, could it still be set within this world? Yes, we're looking at you, Predator. Although the Alien vs Predator movies weren't exactly great, the expanded lore in the comics has fared much better. Alien video games have a chequered past, but at least we've had some good ones. The likes of Predator: Hunting Grounds have hardly blown us away.

If you're sad that Isolation 2 has been blasted into the cold abyss of space, fear not that Tindalos Interactive is working on Aliens: Dark Descent as a squad-based game. There's also Aliens: Fireteam Elite that was an okay game doing far better than the panned Colonial Marines. Still, it'll be hard to top the legacy of Isolation. Then again, with the curse of sequels rife in horror games, who knows whether the mythical Alien: Isolation 2 would've been the next Silent Hill 2 or just another Devil May Cry 2
