We're truly in a video game adaptation era, and while The Last of Us and Fallout TV shows draw plaudits for their very different ideas of what an apocalypse looks like, we're still waiting for a big hit when it comes to the silver screen.
Minecraft could give us just that, with an all-star cast including Jack Black, Jason Momoa and Jennifer Coolidge, but it's not the only blocky adaptation in the works.
Minecraft is getting an animated show on Netflix
As shared on X, formerly Twitter, Mojang Studios and Netflix are teaming up to release an animated Minecraft show.
The teaser doesn't give much away, showing a Creeper exploding into an underground cave that pans to show a big Netflix logo, but it'll likely be enough to get fans of the game excited - especially since the movie adaptation is live-action.
Over on YouTube, the video description reads "This just happened: The best selling game of all time & the biggest streamer in the world are teaming up to bring you a brand NEW Minecraft Netflix animated series!"
"News dropped at the Minecraft 15th year anniversary celebration. More updates to come".
Comments seem positive so far, with one pointing out "We got Minecraft x Netflix Series before GTA 6".
As the YouTube description explains, Minecraft is the top-selling video game of all time with over 300 million copies sold across all platforms. Microsoft purchased developer Mojang Studios in 2014.
